Troop Positions

Troop 7 is a boy led Troop, and one of the best ways for a scout to develop leadership skills is by holding a position within the Troop.
A scout is elected by all the members of the Troop to become the Senior Patrol Leader (or SPL).
The SPL then appoints a Troop Guide as well as a set of Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders (or ASPLs).
The Troop Guide focuses on helping the new scouts learn and advance.
Each ASPL assists a specific set of other Troop positions (see the chart below).
When a scout reaches age 18, he has the opportunity to become a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster.

Reports to SPL
Mentored by ASM – New Scouts
Not a member of a patrol
Ensure Scout Oath and Law are practiced
Set a good example of Scout spirit
Ensure Instructors are knowledgeable
Schedule Instructors with Troop Guides and PLs
Ensure Den Chiefs are fulfilling requirements
Assist Instructors and Den Chiefs in performing functions
Act as liaison between Den Chiefs and Pack 107

Reports to ASPL – Instructors
Member of a patrol
Instruct based on Troop Guide and PL requests
Teach fire, knife, and axe safety
Teach all skills required for 1st class

Den Chief

Appointed by SPL based on interest
Reports to ASPL – Instructors
Member of a patrol
Help plan and attend den meetings
Attend pack meetings
Encourage all boys in den to cross over
Assist Den Leader in attaining National Den Award

Not a member of a patrol

Arrange inter-patrol activities, games, and contests

Assistant Patrol Leader (APL)

Reports to PL
Ensure Scout Oath and Law are practiced
Represent patrol at all meetings PL is unavailable
Set the good example for the patrol
Assist patrol members in attaining 1st class
Assist PL in attaining National Honor Patrol Award

Reports to SPL
Mentored by ASM – Quartermaster
Not a member of a patrol
Ensure Scout Oath and Law are practiced

Should be an active OA member
Ensure Scribe, Quartermasters, and OA Rep fulfill requirements
Assist Scribe, Quartermasters, and OA Rep perform their functions
Recommend and assist in procuring equipment

Scribe

Member of a patrol
Take minutes at PLC meeting
Record attendance at troop meetings and functions
Write press releases, troop PR
Assist in maintaining troop website

Quartermaster

Appointed by SPL based on interest
Reports to ASPL – Quartermaster
Member of a patrol, ideally, one from each patrol
Maintain cleanliness and order of troop trailer
Inspect tents at end of campout
Sign tents and tarps in and out at campouts
Ensure stoves, tents, and tarps are returned clean
Ensure ovens are returned clean and oiled
Report damaged equipment and recommend purchases

Order of the Arrow Representative

Attend all OA meetings and functions
Promote active OA membership
Promote camping within Troop 7 and Pack 107
Arrange semi-annual Troop OA service project

Librarian

Maintain orderly inventory of all materials
Signs all materials in and out
Maintain current copies of PL HB, APL HB, Fieldbook, etc
Provide officers with appropriate handbooks

Chaplain’s Aide

Appointed by SPL based on interest
Reports to ASPL – Offices
Member of a patrol
Provide prayer at troop meetings and functions
Assist new scouts in fulfilling prayer requirements
Help ensure the troop is reverent and morally straight
Promote the earning of religious emblems
Arrange annual service project for chartered organization
Promote chapel and church attendance
